Throughout history, what is means to be (accepted as) a ‘mathematician’ is contingent on certain sets of values that are dependent on cultural and social factors. I collaborated with the IMA (Institute of Mathematics and its Applications) in the UK to create a series of posters, a booklet, a worksheet and some bunting to explore this idea of the identity of ‘mathematician’, using examples from recent history who have been carefully chosen to represent traditionally minoritised and underrepresented identities. The artwork is my original work.
